Bone Density
Bone contains estrogen receptors and is therefore sensitive
to estrogen. Estrogen inhibits bone resorption (the
process of breaking down bone and "resorbing"
it into the body). It also increases the production
of other hormones that promote an increase in bone density.
Studies have shown that high bone density indicates
a high exposure to estrogen in post-menopausal women,
and perhaps longer exposure over a lifetime. Research
indicates that there may be a relationship between high
bone density and breast cancer risk, although hormones
other than estrogen may be involved. ref
